I started my journey to be a therapist in 2015 after working for many years with children at a community art center. As I have developed my skills as a therapist, I have found my passion working with people who are grieving, or those struggling with individual or generational trauma.
I approach each new client with care and humility, as it is not easy to trust a stranger with your deepest and most painful experiences. My primary goal is always to help you feel safe and free of judgment. Research shows that people get the most out of therapy when they have a strong sense of connection and rapport with their therapist. I believe in building a safe therapeutic space first and foremost so we can collaboratively identify your strengths and help you reach your goals together.
For some people, the process of therapy starts because of a loss or a difficult experience that is hard to shake off. For others, we are plagued by difficult and uncomfortable emotions that impact our daily lives and make each day a challenge. If this sounds familiar, you are not alone, and I am glad you have come this far in your journey towards healing. Hopefully, by working collaboratively and without judgement, we can move to a place of peace that may be missing right now.
An important part of my work is fostering agency and helping you feel capable of tackling life’s challenges with confidence. I use a strong present moment approach, helping you find ways to heal old wounds and feel capable of facing future challenges. I also genuinely enjoy what I do, and try to bring that enjoyment and compassion into each session. I pull from a variety of therapeutic models, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT Therapy), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Person Centered, Gestalt, Prolonged Exposure, and Solution Focused. When working with grief in particular, I use the model developed by Dr. J. William Worden which focuses on four tasks that help people move through the grieving process. If you have any questions about these modalities, feel free to email me at ben@bestdayoftheweektherapy.com. I love geeking out about therapy with anyone who will listen.
I am happy to be a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) #122263.
